Staller Center welcomes back the Emerson
String Quartet for its second concert in our
season. The Emerson String Quartet has
amassed an impressive list of achievements.
In March 2004 the Quartet was named the
18th recipient of the 2004 Avery Fisher Prize,
a first for a chamber music ensemble.
Emerson won six Grammy Awards including
two unprecedented honors for "Best
Classical Album." They have performed complete
cycles of Beethoven, Bartok and
Shostakovich quartets in major
concert halls throughout the
world and recorded a brilliant
series of albums for
Deutsche Grammophon
since 1987. In this
Staller Center concert,
the quartet welcomes Colin Carr, cellist. The program
includes Shostakovich String Quartet No.
15 in E flat minor, Op. 144 (1974), one of
the most moving of his compositions, and
the Schubert Cello Quintet in C Major for 2
violins, viola, 2 cellos, D.956, Op.163
(1828).
