Emerging victorious after three years of legal challenges for the right to perform Martha
Graham’s works, the Martha Graham Dance Company has focused on ensuring that her
legendary masterworks will live on through a new generation of dancers. What is the
function of this American dance that was fought for so hard?
We look at the dance to impart the sensation of living in an affirmation of life, to energize the
spectator into keener awareness of the vigor, the mystery, the humor, the variety and the
wonder of life. Martha Graham (1894-1991)
The repertory spans eight decades, showing the staggering scope and beauty of Martha Graham’s work, from the power and simplicity of the all-women group works and early solos to the acclaimed classics like Appalachian Spring. The mission of the company is also to extend her artistic vision with artistic collaborations that reflect concerns of
contemporary society in the 21st century. Staller Center is honored to again be able to
bring the Martha Graham Dance Company to our region. Come and be energized!
