Anoushka Shankar, sitar
Friday, October 27, 2006
at 8:00 pm
Recital Hall - $36
Anoushka Shankar and her new band of virtuoso Eastern and Western musicians
wield a variety of acoustic and electronic instruments including sitar, traditional
Indian tabla, flute, voice, piano, synthesizer, and electric bass. Daughter of the
legendary master of sitar, Ravi Shankar, Anoushka previously recorded strictly
in the classical tradition of her father, but now has truly emerged as a potent
creative force, not only performing on sitar, but also exhibiting her own
unique voice as a composer, arranger and producer (Rise, nominated for Best
Contemporary World Music album). Anoushka injects “freshness and energy
into [traditional Indian music], broadening its appeal for a younger generation…
making her a concert hall favorite in the West.” (TIME Asia).
Join us for an exotic, memorable evening.
