Michael Cooper is an eye-popping visual artist and virtuoso mime whose exquisite performances have dazzled audiences for almost thirty years. His one-man extravaganza combines his breathtaking handcrafted masks, original stories of courage and wonder, outlandish stilt dancing and a physical repertoire that ranges from the madcap to the sublime. Taking up to three hundred hours to produce a single paper or cloth mask, Michael has elevated this most ancient of theatre crafts to the level of fine art. The unending enthusiasm of this masked marvel captivates both young and old.

Appropriate for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. A question and answer period will follow the performance.

Aulos Ensemble

AN AFTERNOON WITH THE BACH FAMILY

Sunday January 24, 2010
at 3:00 pm

Recital Hall - $12

Not Just For Kids

C.P.E. Bach, son of Johann Sebastian Bach, described life in his father’s home as a “musical beehive.” It must have been, because J.S. Bach had 21 children. Many went on to successful professional musical careers, with Carl Philip Emmanuel and Johann Christian enjoying greater fame during their lifetimes than their father.  The family music making, along with impromptu get-togethers with friends, must have been extraordinary indeed.  Members of the Aulos Ensemble will have some fun pretending to be members of the Bach family, treating us to Bach favorites, in this one-hour program specifically for young school-age musicians.

Darwin is a truly unique and innovative theatre experience where electroluminescent crayon-like creatures light up the stage with a tale of Darwin, the dinosaur, discovering the true meaning of love. To tell the story, creators Corbin Popp and Ian Carney have developed an array of creatures and characters that are manipulated by their hands and bodies in a blackout setting. It’s a creative and exciting journey recommended for children 7 years of age and older.
