On Opening Night, the
Stony Brook Film Festival hosts the U.S. premiere of
Sonny Boy, a powerful film based on actual events. Sonny
Boy centers on two people: Rika, a devoted, fun-loving
mother of four children, and Waldemar, an ambitious,
earnest young man from Surinam who travels to Holland to
study. The realities of pre-war Dutch society with its
prejudices and rigidity, and the brutal, devastating
power of World War II will change their lives. Sonny Boy
is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Annejet van
der Zijl.
Produced by Maria
Peters, Hans Pos and Dave Schram. Director of
Photography: Walther Vanden Ende.
