Dear Film
Lovers,
We once again
invite you to see the world’s best and newest Independent, art and foreign films
as we embark on our 16th year of taking you to the movies, here at
Stony Brook University’s Staller Center for the Arts.
Whether you
enjoy foreign language films, American Independents or shorts from around the
globe, you’ll be enchanted, challenged and amazed by the fresh and exciting
movies my staff and I have assembled for the 2011 festival. You’ll enjoy Studio
Spotlight Premiere screenings of films that are slated for late summer/ early
fall theatrical releases in U.S. theatres as well as World, U.S. and East Coast
premieres of films seeking to find distribution…and your votes for these films
in competition can help play a role as films vie for awards given out on closing
night.
We have an
exciting mix of films beginning with a powerful Dutch film, SONNY BOY in its
U.S. premiere to open the festival on July 21, and a delightful new comedy from
Germany – ALMANYA, in its East Coast Premiere to close the festival on July 30.
Both our opening and closing night films, along with many others this year
feature a powerful and growing voice in film – women directors.
Expect to see
filmmakers in attendance as well as other special guests from the U.S., Canada,
Poland, Germany, The Netherlands, China, Australia, Ireland, The United Kingdom,
France, Sweden and Iceland at many of the screenings this summer.
We have once
again kept our FILM PASS price at an incredibly low $75, the absolute best way
to attend the festival.
AND NEW for
2011, for the first time, we are offering for sale a limited number of GOLD
PASSES. This pass allows patrons to sit in the Reserved Section of the theatre
along with filmmakers and guests and includes a ticket to the Opening & Closing
Night Receptions.
Join us and meet
directors, actors, as well as rising stars in the film world as they answer
questions following many of the screenings. Mingle with them and fellow
filmgoers at the opening and closing night parties for an additional charge
(those go fast, buy them early as they are limited).
Don’t miss out
on Long Island’s premier annual summer arts event. The 16th Annual
Stony Brook Film Festival from July 21-30 will be 10 film-packed days to
remember!
See you at the
movies!
Alan Inkles,
Festival Director
