Information on recent immigration actions
April 10, 2025
Dear Stony Brook Community,
As you may know, the federal government has terminated student visas for a small number of international students across the country in the Student Exchange and Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Stony Brook has learned that 11 students’ records have been terminated, as of today. Our Office of Global Affairs team has notified any impacted students and are in direct contact with them to provide appropriate support. The Office of Global Affairs will continue to monitor the situation and reach out to any impacted international student.
We want to assure you that our Global Affairs team is exceptionally knowledgeable in advising our international community and are working around the clock to provide individualized support to our international students, faculty, and scholars. They are leveraging their extensive network of partners, including SUNY, to gather up-to-date information on resources and guidance.
We encourage international students to reach out with any questions to our Visa and Immigration Services and International Student Success offices and visit the Immigration Policy Updates page for the latest information.
We want to reaffirm our strong support for all international students and scholars. Stony Brook is deeply enriched by the perspectives and contributions of our global community, and we are proud to learn, teach, and conduct research alongside such exceptional individuals. Thank you for your continued support and concern for our community of international scholars.
Sincerely,
