About
The Stony Brook Opera features graduate students in voice, many of whom have already gone on to establish professional singing careers. Past participants of Stony Brook Opera include two winners of the prestigious Tucker Award; Christine Goerke and Christian Van Horn.

Each year, the opera programs one Baroque opera or one contemporary opera and a standard work with orchestra, all staged or semi-staged at the Staller Center for the Arts. An annual gala program of opera scenes is also on the agenda of this busy ensemble.

In addition, the singers receive training in acting, audition techniques, role preparation and more. Stony Brook Opera was begun nearly a half century ago by distinguished professor David Lawton and is currently overseen by soprano, Brenda Harris.
