Job Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision
● Assist the Residence Hall Director (RHD) with the supervision, training, and evaluation of Resident Assistants (RAs). ● Participate in weekly area staff meetings ● Work with professional staff to prepare weekly staff meeting agendas including important information, teambuilders/ice breakers, professional development opportunities etc. ● Assist in the facilitation of RA staff meetings and community-wide meetings. ● Participate in the Resident Assistant training in the winter and summer intersessions. ● Act in the place of the RHD in their absence. ● Oversee Office Assistants (OAs) in the absence of professional staff members. ● Support Area Office administrative processes, policies, and procedures. ● Manage administrative tasks related to RA staff such as overseeing and coordinating RA duty scheduling.
Community Engagement
● Implement the Residential Curriculum and support the development and execution of community engagement strategies aimed at upper-division and graduate students. ● Oversee a component of community engagement for the area, such as marketing, space reservations and management, and health & safety inspections, etc. ● Advise an Apartment Area Community Council (West Apartments Resident Association/Schomburg Apartments Resident Association).
Student Conduct & Crisis Management
● Serve as an Administrator On Call on a 24-hour duty rotation for approximately 2500 students, responding to and handling crisis situations after normal business hours (evenings/weekends) throughout the academic year. ● Act as a resource/referral agent for campus and community resources such as the Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Center, University Police, Financial Aid, etc. ● Participates as a hearing officer for student conduct cases and adjudicates cases under the advisement of an RHD. ● Inform residents regarding policies that exist at Stony Brook University and provide guidance on how to prevent issues in the future through conversations and development of educational materials. ● Assist with resident conflict mediation such as flatmate/roommate mediations, etc.
Facilities, Housing Management, and Area Office Administration
● Assist with Area Office operations which could include key management, answering phone calls, responding to Area Office emails, completing Occupancy Verification, and addressing walk-in student questions and concerns. ● Follow up with student concerns regarding facility issues and maintenance requests. ● Assist with ensuring residential spaces are prepared for incoming residents, and conduct damage billing assessments under the advisement of the RHD. ● Provide assistance with apartment openings and closings, summer transitions, as well as other check-ins and checkouts during the year. ● Address Health and Safety issues in shared community spaces and student spaces, ensuring compliance with the Terms of Occupancy and Code of Student Responsibility Department and Committee Responsibilities. ● Contribute to a departmental committee and fulfill any assigned tasks assigned by the chair(s) and/or advisor(s). ● Participate in bi-weekly department and committee meetings. ● Attend weekly supervision meetings with a professional staff member. ● Participate in professional staff and paraprofessional staff summer and/or winter training sessions and ongoing graduate/professional development. ● Engage in departmental and campus-wide awards, recognition events, and professional development opportunities, such as the RA Conference, RA Soiree, and End of Year Awards, among others. ● Adhere to important departmental and committee-wide deadlines and dates.Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

Graduate Practicums/Field Education and Internships
at Stony Brook University
Graduate practica/field education are an integral part of the graduate education experience. Students who complete
practicums/field education in the Division of Student Affairs will have the opportunity
to gain knowledge, professional skills, and a broad understanding about the Higher
Education profession. Special note: Tuition remission, health insurance, and retirement benefits are not
included as part of graduate internship/field education and practicum positions.
HEA Practicum. Students enrolled in the Higher Education Administration (HEA) Program who do not have one year of professional work experience in higher education or are
not currently employed in higher education, are required to complete a 150-hour (10
hours per week for 15 weeks) practicum (unpaid internship) with an approved supervisor
working in the higher education field or student affairs department to gain practical
experience. In addition to their field hours, students will also complete a 14-week
online course, HEA 586 - Practicum in Higher Education, to build a strong theory-to-practice
connection, and to reflect on and discuss the practicum experience. Students will
earn 3 credits and can choose to do their internship in the Fall or Spring semester.
The 3 credits earned will count as one of the six required electives for the program.
This practicum opportunity is for students who are in the Master of Arts program only.
Students in the Advanced Graduate Certificate program are not eligible to earn credit
for a practicum experience. Approval from the Department of Higher Education Administration is required.
Graduate internships and field education offer students the opportunity to explore potential career paths, build their resumes, and gain essential industry experience that can lead to full-time employment. Internships can be for academic credit/no credit, paid or unpaid, and occur during the Fall/Spring semester or during the winter/summer breaks. Field Education opportunities are required, for academic credit, and coordinated through the Master of Social Work graduate program in the School of Social Welfare. Internships and Field Education can be on-site, hybrid or remote. Internships and field education for academic credit require approval from an academic department.
The Academic Success Coach (ASC) will identify learning needs of School of Health Professions students (undergraduate, graduate, professional) and develop support programs and services. They will develop, document, implement, and evaluate small group and large-scale tailored interventions. The graduate student selected for this position will:
- Gain a broad understanding and knowledge of the role of Student Affairs in promoting a just and inclusive campus environment.
- Gain experience in campus programming and learn how it enhances student learning and retention.

- Develop an in-depth understanding of web-based communication, social media platforms, and other outreach strategies.
Intern Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of course content for bi-weekly DoSA Undergraduate Fellowship Meetings and related activities.
- Assist with planning, implementing, and assessing outreach and recruitment activities for the next cycle of the Fellowship Program, including but not limited to marketing and communications (i.e. virtual and in-person information sessions, electronic correspondence, recruitment videos, social media, website updates).
- Regularly update the Division of Student Affairs website on Graduate Employment, Practicum, and Internship Opportunities, including content areas.
- Collaborate on program content, marketing and outreach, implementation, and assessment of programs presented by the Diversity Leadership Development Initiative (DLDI).
- Update the DLDI website content areas.
- Attend weekly supervision meetings.
- Perform other related duties appropriate for the internship as time and availability permits.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet the following requirements:- Be a graduate student in the Higher Education Administration Program (HEA)
- Be enrolled in HEA 586: Higher Education Administration Practicum or enrolled in HEA 587: Advance Practicum in Higher Education Administration.
- Possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in campus programming and student activities gained as an undergraduate or graduate student.

The Department of Sociology is seeking a graduate student (HEA Graduate Intern) in the Higher Education Administration (HEA) program who would like to develop and practice skills in coordination of academic programming and advising within the Sociology Department. We expect the HEA Graduate Intern in Sociology to commit to twelve hours per week and be enrolled in HEA 586: Practicum in Higher Education, with a potential opportunity to continue with HEA 587: Advanced Practicum in the subsequent semester. The graduate intern will work primarily to support the Sociology Department. This is a practicum position for HEA graduate students only.Goals and Objectives (Learning Outcomes):

- Co-supervise undergraduate interns and triage at front desk

- Supervise exams taken by students with disabilities within the testing center.
- Ensure all computers are fully operational at the start of each shift. All machines should be on and prepared for testing, including appropriate software programs running as needed. Set up approved websites and block restricted sites.
- Review daily test log to ensure all physical paper exams are accounted for and in place.
- Check in students and assign them to workstations. Manage students' breaks as needed, documenting each break.
- Ensure academic integrity and that all exams are administered consistently as they would be in the classroom. Ensure students are only using approved testing accommodations. Manage start and end times for all students.
- Complete the proctor forms with end times and prepare exams for professor pick up or scan and email completed exams.
- When required, scribe for students taking exams. This includes writing verbatim what a student dictates for all written work. Complete scantrons for students, when approved as an accommodation
- Assist with maintaining a testing log and ensuring exams are requested in a timely manner. Liaise with faculty to ensure all exams are in an accessible format and received within a timely manner.

Individuals considered for practicum/internships must be enrolled in the Master of Arts Higher Education Administration (H.E.A.) Program at Stony Brook University. They also must be enrolled in HEA 586: Higher Education
